About the group
A friendly, free and easy atmosphere
Brookwood Art Group meets every Friday morning at Brookwood Memorial Hall, from half past nine until half past twelve.
Our aim is to create a friendly, free and easy atmosphere in which members of all abilities and levels of experience can work in their chosen medium. Some of us paint in watercolour, some in oils, others in acrylics, pastels or pencil — and several of us are still working out which we prefer.
What happens on a Friday
Most Fridays are simply open studio time: members bring their own work and get on with it, with plenty of discussion and exchange of ideas along the way. Tea, coffee and biscuits are included, and are taken seriously.
Through the year we also arrange:
- Demonstrations by visiting regional artists
- Full-day workshops, usually held at the hall
- Themed mornings, where anyone who fancies it works to a common subject
- Exhibitions and sales at local fairs and shows
None of this is compulsory. If a themed morning does not appeal, you are very welcome to carry on with your own painting instead.
Everyone is welcome
We are a community group rather than a school. Members range from complete beginners to people who have painted for decades, and nobody is expected to arrive with any particular level of skill — only an interest in making something.
